01 / The shift
For twenty years, being found meant ranking on Google. That is ending. People now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's own AI for a recommendation, and the machine returns two or three names instead of ten blue links. One study measured what happens to a business when its pages are written for that machine instead of the old index.

02 / The absence
Ask any AI assistant for the best sports physio in Amsterdam. It will name a few. Strong Google reviews do not carry over, because the machine reads for different signals than a human does. A business can be the best in the city and still be missing from the answer.
Missing is not a small disadvantage. In a list of three names, missing is invisible.

Citation is not luck. It comes from properties a page either has or lacks. I measure four, and the first thing I send you is your score on each.

I am Pepijn Akkermans. I spent twelve years in performance sport before this, which taught me one transferable thing. How to do the boring work the same way every day, including the days I did not feel like it.
